Getting planning consent ...

There are many ways to go about getting planning consent. The most usual are:

  1. Purchasing a building plot that has already got outline planning consent.
  2. A plot that has obtained full planning consent for a particular type and design of building. (You will have to reapply to change the consent to the building of you choice) .

.....3. Applying for building permission from scratch on a plot you have .........either purchased or are considering doing so.

4. If you are considering purchasing a mobile or transportable home you will need a different type of planning consent.

In all cases you would be well advised to approach you local planning office to seek their advice on the type of building you are proposing. They will be able to tell you if you are likely to succeed with your preferred plans, and might be able to offer advise on another acceptable alternative. It would be preferable if you could get the planning officer to visit the proposed site and be able to show them photo's and plans of the building as it would appear on the site, we are sure this will be time well spent and could save you thousands of pounds.

We understand from our own local planning office that they would treat planning for a log house construction in the same way as traditional planning applications. The television program Grand Designs has shown the planners just what can be achieved in log house design, in their program in May 2005.

If required we can supply log houses streamlined to blend into any residential area, this is something many log house suppliers cannot offer. You will be able to choose one of our dream log houses, have it designed to your very own choice by an expert log house designer in Finland and have it built or build it yourself as a self build, on your own building plot.

Initially we will provide you with an estimate of the kit cost if you let us have a drawing of the ‘footprints' or plans, these do not have to be sophisticated, a hand drawing will do, so long as you show the room sizes along with the overall length and width of the building. It would be preferable if you can choose a photo from one of our web sites, to give us an idea of how you would like it to appear.

After you have the estimate and have finalised your plans we can then get you a final quotation. If you decide to go ahead, subject to planning consent, we can then get the designers in Finland to draw up the final plans for you to submit to your planning office, we must draw you attention to the cost of these plans (£400), which must be paid for in advance, this cost will be refunded if you go ahead with the project.

All our log houses conform to the building regulations in the UK.

If we can be of any further assistance or if you would like to view our show house at Wisbech, please do not hesitate to contact us.
